Jairus Daughter

Jairus Daughter back to life

The story of the daughter of Jairus is found in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Jairus was a synagogue leader who came to Jesus in desperation because his daughter was very ill and near death. Jesus agreed to go with him to heal his daughter.

On the way, a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years reached out and touched Jesus' cloak, believing that if she just touched His garment, she would be healed. Jesus stopped and spoke to her, telling her that her faith had healed her. While He was still speaking, some people from Jairus' house came to tell him that his daughter had died.

Jesus encouraged Jairus to have faith and not to be afraid. When they arrived at the house, Jesus went in with Peter, James, and John, and saw the people weeping and mourning for the girl. He told them that she was not dead, but only sleeping. They laughed at Him, knowing that she was indeed dead.

Jesus took the girl's hand and said, "Talitha koum," which means "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" Immediately, the girl got up and began to walk around. Her parents were astonished and amazed.

Here are some key teachings we can learn from the story of the daughter of Jairus:

  1. Jesus is able to heal and restore life. Jairus came to Jesus in desperation because his daughter was dying, and Jesus was able to heal her and restore her life. This teaches us that Jesus is able to heal and restore all areas of our lives, including physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

  2. Faith is necessary for healing. The woman who touched Jesus' garment believed that she would be healed if she just touched His cloak, and Jesus told her that her faith had healed her. Jairus also had faith that Jesus could heal his daughter. This teaches us that faith is necessary for healing and that we must trust in Jesus' power to heal and restore.

  3. Jesus has power over death. When Jesus arrived at Jairus' house, the girl had already died, but Jesus told them that she was only sleeping. He then raised her from the dead, demonstrating His power over death. This teaches us that Jesus has power over all things, including death, and that He can bring life where there is death.

  4. We should not be afraid, but have faith in Jesus. When Jairus heard that his daughter had died, Jesus encouraged him not to be afraid, but to have faith. This teaches us that we should not be afraid, but trust in Jesus' power and goodness, even in the face of difficult and seemingly hopeless situations.

In conclusion, the story of the daughter of Jairus teaches us about Jesus' power to heal and restore, the importance of faith in healing, Jesus' power over death, and the importance of not being afraid, but trusting in Jesus' power and goodness.
